House By The Lake Balaton

2014. július 30. - Zsiraf1201
It was the last house of the seven houses by Lake Balaton that my friend and her fiancee chose.

The asking price was 47 million HUF (€157 000) and they ended up paying 34 million HUF (€113 000) for it!!!
As I mentioned before it's in a pretty bad shape, so all the heating, electricity etc must be redone. The good thing is that most of the walls can be removed or demolished.
What they liked most was the location. It's in Balatonboglar, on the south side of the lake Balaton, on a quiet street, but near the beach, walking distance of the shops, restaurants & railway station, so it's easy for friends and family to come & visit even without a car.

The first step after all the paper work is done is to make the renovation plan. Can't wait to get started!

ps. you can find the other house option here, here, here, here, here and more about this house here.

Pure & Good In Budapest

On my morning run to Margit Island I noticed this new store on Pozsonyi Street. Later popped in and checked what they had. Spices, herbs, beans, rice, gluten free ingredients, healthy snacks... simply pure & good!
They have started the shop with no fancy decoration etc and step by step when the business grows they will add something extra to it. The main thing is the variety of products. They didn't yet have chia seeds, but added them on their list, so on my next visit there will probably be those on the shelf.

Keep On Learning!

Learning new skills is never waste of time.
There are lots of people around me who have began to study to achieve a new profession or to complement the existing one. Some do it beside their daily job, some do it full-time. I like to attend workshops, courses and different classes. Just had a great Masterclass organized by the Guardian in London. The classes took place at King's Place, which is the Guardian's head office . It's also the home for London Sinfonietta (you probably know that the building is quite familiar to me!). It's located near King's Cross and just a short walking way from Islington. The Regent Canal walk is great!

 Exhausted but happy!
So much new information. Can't wait to get started.

ps. the Guardian Masterclasses are very well organized. Refreshments and lunch are included, and the canteen food there is excellent.

Devil Wears Prada & So Do I

I guess it's been lovely warm even hot week all around Europe. Wanted to avoid heavy dressing (like always!) so this has been my favorite outfit  while running errands in the city. Found a pair of trousers in the back of my closet which I'd bought ages ago in New York and they became my new best pants immediately!
Simple, nothing fancy.

pants - Prada
top - Gap
shoes - Toms
sunglasses - Fendi
bracelets - Tiffany's, Michael Kors, Thomas Sabo
the pale pink leather bracelet bought at Nougat, Helsinki last summer
watch - Gucci

ps. not yet make-up...although the skin feels already much better. Probably because of the strong medicine I feel extra tired.

On The Way To...

If you are on your way to Porvoo from Helsinki, don't miss Kulloo!
There's a golf course and next to it Kulloon Kartano/Kullo Gård/Kullo Mansion, where a fantastic "Butiken på landet" boutique is located. There's also cottage accommodation available.

Butiken på landet concept stores are lifestyle boutiques with casual and business wear for both women and men, shoes and decorative pieces for home.

Lake Houses part 7

 Nice view, isn't it?
This is the last house of lake house hunting at Lake Balaton. Located in Balatonboglar, walking distance from the lake, built in 1955, added some extra space in the late 80s. I would say it's a real retro piece inside out. Condition is pretty poor but that's how it is usually in the houses of that era. People live there but probably are so used to it that don't see that maybe some changes would do good. Or maybe it's a money issue. Who knows.
Lots of space, two levels, big garden, nice neighborhood, near shops & restaurants, but still on a quiet street without almost any traffic.
Upstairs in the middle the rooms have yellow glass ceiling windows...

View to the side.

Asking price 47 million Hungarian forints (€157.000).

So there were 7 houses to choose from...
Next time I'll tell you which one was chosen & bought!

Bistro Sinne: "Let Food Be Thy Medicine"

?

Minne mennä? No, sinne!
Had a fabulous lunch at Sinne in Porvoo, Finland. The place is located in the Art Factory on the western riverfront. Sinne serves seasonal food made of fresh ingredients from the local producers.
Wanted to put the dessert pic in the beginning... the salt liquorice meringue was heavenly! But before eating that heavenly piece had chosen the Menu Porvoo which included Gazpacho with shrimps & spruce-scented oil, grilled local wild salmon with boiled potatoes & chantarelles and the for the dessert marinated strawberries with vanilla ice-cream & liquorice meringue.
Everything tasted fresh and all were so perfectly prepared. Finnish food at its best.
Simply delicious!

ps. the owners will be opened a new restaurant also in Helsinki in near future...

Budapest: Kodály Körönd

Kodály Körönd in Budapest in 1903.
Same square on Andrássy út in July 2014.

One of the four buildings at Kodaly Körönd was on fire on Tuesday July 15. The fire fighting was going on still on Wednesday. The icons building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Only the lower level survived, all the other floors are damaged.

The huge plumes of smoke were visible across the city. The surrounding buildings were evacuated and the streets around were closed to cars and pedestrians.

The building was built 1882-1885 ans it's one of the city's most iconic buildings, but has been the subject of financial and ownership disputes for many years, with numerous attempts at renovation being announced or begun without conclusion.

Let's see what will happen to this once beautiful building...

ps.the square or actually circus was named Körönd from the 1890s, Hitler Adolf tér from 1938, renamed Körönd in 1945 and in 1971 named after Zoltán Kodály (Hungarian composer) who once lived in one of the buildings there.

ps ps. The place plaza a central role in Vilmos Kondor's book Budapest Noir (2012).
